University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a collegiate public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.&nbsp;Within India it is recognized as a &quot;Five-Star University&quot; and accredited &quot;A&quot; Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

It was established on 24 January 1857, and was one of the first institutions in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and Western-style university. Its alumni and faculty include several heads of state, heads of government, social reformers, prominent artists, only academy award winner and Dirac medal winner in India, many Fellows of the Royal Society and five Nobel laureates as of 2019 which is highest in South Asia.

The study intended to determine whether Gender Role Identity and Exercise Avoidance Motivation vary in terms of gender (male/female), Body Mass Index (BMI - normal weight / overweight / obese) and Exercise Habit (regular exercise/no exercise) in adults. The sample consisted of 480 participants (240 males and 240 females) between 25 to 40 years of age, subdivided into twelve groups according to their BMI and exercise habit. A Detailed Information Schedule and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) were administered for screening purpose. Indian Gender Role Identity Scale (IGRIS) and Exercise Avoidance Motivation Scale were finally administered to the subjects to assess their gender role identity (masculinity and femininity) and exercise avoidance motivation. Results revealed that both gender role identity and exercise avoidance motivation varied in terms of gender, BMI and exercise habit. Males and regular exercisers and persons with normal BMI had low exercise avoidance motivation, while females, overweight and obese individuals as well as no exercisers had greater exercise avoidance motivation. © Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.

Obesity and exercise in relation to gender role identity and exercise avoidance motivation in adults

The popularity of facebook is unprecedented. However, in spite of its huge popularity and user base, a considerable portion of internet users are not facebook users. The present study therefore examined the difference between facebook users and non-users with respect to personality, attachment style, social interaction anxiety and self-esteem; to obtain a depiction of the type of people who are likely (or not likely) to use facebook. The sample consisted of 120 male and female facebook users and non-users between 18-35 years. The General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), the Facebook Intensity Scale (FBI), the Neo Five- Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), the Relationship Scales Questionnaire (RSQ), the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) were used. The results revealed that facebook users were more extravert and open, while non-users were more conscientious than users. Facebook users had high self-esteem and low social interaction anxiety than non-users. Users possessed secure attachment style, while non-users had a fearful attachment style. © Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.

Psychological predictors of facebook use

Research on Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) in the workplace is increasingly gaining momentum. The broad objective of the present study was to examine the nature of OCB and its dimensions in the private and public sector Indian organizations and also to investigate the relationship that OCB bears with sources of work motivation. The sample consisted of 400 workers drawn equiproportionately from the private and public sector organizations located in three districts of West Bengal. Data were collected by the administration of an OCB Scale developed by the present researcher in consultation with the conceptual framework of Organ, Podsakoff, Pattanayak and an adapted version of Motivation Sources Inventory. The standard item analysis technique was followed to develop the OCB scale and simple correlation was also done to understand the relationship of OCB with that of motivational sources in the private and public sectors. Besides, the comparison of both the sectors with respect to OCB and Work Motivation was done by applying t-tests on the present sample. The results indicated the emergence of three new factors with respect to the conceptualization of OCB. It was also revealed that OCB (on its seven dimensions and as a global measure) tended to be higher in private sector workers than that of the public sector workers. Work Motivation with respect to the workers of the two sectors presented a mixed picture, with "t" differences being significant on three sources and insignificant on the other two. The relationship of OCB with that of Work Motivation, as depicted, by the correlational analysis, is significant in private sector organizations whereas the same relationship is insignificant in the public sector organizations. Thus, it may be concluded that focusing on OCB could positively set new trends and vistas in how the private and public sector organizations may utilize the capacity of their workers in transforming the organizations into true 'performing' ones. © Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.

Work motivation vis-a-vis organizational citizenship behaviour

Adolescence is the age when an individual becomes integrated into the society of adults and a major transition starts taking place physically as well as psychologically. Therefore this stage is very sensitive and an important phase of life which shapes the entire future and it also predicts the quality of life an adolescent will lead. Attachment has become an important issue in clinical evaluation of, and legal decisions about, school-aged children. Bowlby's general framework of attachment formation in parent-child bonding posits that caregivers have predictable, common styles that impact a child's emotion regulation, social relatedness, capacity for self-reflection, and overall neurological development- factors that may extend through adulthood. So the aim of the study is to find out the association between the variables and how much it affects an adolescent behaviour and mental health. The sample consisted of 120 adolescent boys and girls' age ranging from 13-14 years and randomization technique was used to select them. Attachment styles and their implication for adolescents

The article is an extension of the Indian Gender Role Identity Scale (IGRIS) developed by Basu. It was observed that the items of the gender role identity scales are subject to variation according to age groups, as the gender role values change across generation. Three variants of the IGRIS were constructed for the teenagers (17-19 years), young adults (19-30 years) and married adult couples (30-50 years). The psychomertric properties of the three variants entitled IGRIS A, IGRIS B and IGRIS C respectively have been detailed in the article. © Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.
