Natural products represent a rich source of biologically active compounds and an example of molecular diversity with recognized potential in drug discovery. Nowadays, medicinal mushrooms used in folk medicine are being increasingly studied for their successful application in pharmaceutical industries. In this context, Pleurotus species are one such potential mushroom with worldwide acceptance as a delicious food and famed for remarkable medicinal properties. However, till date no reports regarding the bioactivity of the most compatible herbal formulations of this mushroom (infusion and decoction) have been documented. Therefore, the present study has been undertaken to investigate the phytochemical composition and antioxidant properties of three cultivated species of this group namely, P. eous, P. florida and P. ostreatus. Phytochemical composition revealed that the infusion fraction of P. eous is the most enriched fraction having high amount of phenols (13.03 μggallic acid equivalent/mg of extract), flavonoids (3.57 μg quercetin equivalent/mg of extract) and ascorbic acid (16.66 μg/mg of extract). Moreover, free radical scavenging potentials of the corresponding fractions of these mushrooms were tested by different in-vitro systems. Results demonstrated infusion had noticeable scavenging activity in concentration dependent manner while decoction exhibited moderate activity for all three species. Decoction did not show any activity in hydroxyl radical scavenging assay. Together, our findings provide a detailed data explaining beneficial therapeutic properties of aqueous fraction of these Pleurotus species. Additionally, it also can be concluded that in comparison with other studied mushroom, P. eous infusion is superior in terms of antioxidant efficacy. © 2020 DSR Publishers/The University of Jordan. Antioxidant properties and phytochemical screening of infusion and decoction obtained from three cultivated pleurotus species: A comparative study

The study investigated the significant difference between various interpersonal relationship needs of the employees of service and manufacturing organizations; 437 employees were selected from 56 service and manufacturing organizations in and around Kolkata. Fundamental Interpersonal Relationship Orientation - Behavior (FIRO-B) scale developed by William Schutz in 1958, was administered to collect the data from the sample. For analysis of the data, descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA and Brown Forsythe test were used. The findings revealed that significant differences existed between the employees of service organizations and the employees of manufacturing organizations with regards to Expressed Inclusion, Expressed Control, Total Expressed, Total Inclusion and Total Control. © 2019 SCMS Group of Educational Institutions. Firo based understanding of interpersonal relationship: Orientation of the employees

The present study investigated the significant difference between various interpersonal relationship needs of the employees of private and public sector organizations ; 437 employees were selected from 55 public and private organizations in and around Kolkata, irrespective of the mode of operations. Fundamental interpersonal relationship orientation - Behavior (FIRO-B) scale developed by William Schutz in 1958 was administered to collect the data from the sample. For analysis of the data, descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA were used. The findings revealed that significant difference existed between private and public sector employees in total wanted need; total behavior needs such as inclusion, control, as well as overall needs score. It was seen that private sector employees held stronger interpersonal needs than public sector employees. From the profiling of their FIRO-B score, it was seen categorically that employees from both the sectors fell in almost similar categories regarding individual need score as well as total and behavioral need scores. This research study would help management committees of these organizations to engage their employees in effective decision making as well as personality development training depending upon their interpersonal needs.

Interpersonal relationship needs of employees of private and public sector organizations: A FIRO perspective

This study investigated the relationship between intrinsic motivation, emotional intelligence, and organizational citizenship behavior of various service sector organizations; 248 employees were selected from 35 service sector organizations (public and private) in and around Kolkata. The following tools were administered to test the hypotheses: (a) Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation: What Do You Look For In A Job? by Pareek (1997); (b) Emotional Intelligence Scale by Chaddha and Singh (Singh, 2003); (c) Organizational Citizenship Behavior Checklist by Fox, Spector, Goh, Bruursema, and Kessler(2012). For analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, ANOVA, correlation and regression were used. The findings revealed that significant and positive relation existed between intrinsic motivation, emotional intelligence, and organizational citizenship behavior. Intrinsic motivation and emotional intelligence together predicted 27% of the total variance of organizational citizenship behavior. Intrinsic motivation and organizational citizenship behavior were found to be better in case of private-sector employees than in case of public-sector employees. As it was found that intrinsic motivation and emotional intelligence are positively related to organizational citizenship behavior, so employers may motivate their employees intrinsically to retain them and while hiring, employers may consider candidates with high emotional intelligence who can benefit the organization.

Intrinsic motivation, emotional intelligence, and perceived organizational citizenship behavior among employees in service organizations

The present study is aimed at exploring the Pro-environmental Behavior of 150 1st year undergraduate college students of Kolkata. Pro-environmental Behavior is a behavior, which is generally judged in the context of the considered society in a protective way of environmental behavior or a tribute to the healthy environment. The purpose of this study was to find out if there was any significant difference across genders with respect to behavior. Further, the study aimed at finding out the relation, if any, between values, oneness belief and skepticism with pro-environmental behavior. The t-tests revealed that there was no significant difference between male and female subjects regarding Pro-environmental Behavior. However, with respect to Oneness belief, Skepticism about environment, Values for environment there were significant differences between male and female subjects. Nevertheless, Oneness belief, Skepticism about environment, Values for environment were found to be significantly correlated with Pro-environmental behavior. Linear regression analysis revealed that values for environment appeared as the only significant predictor of Pro-environmental behavior. © Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.
