University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a collegiate public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.&nbsp;Within India it is recognized as a &quot;Five-Star University&quot; and accredited &quot;A&quot; Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

The University of Calcutta has secured the Fifth position among the Universities of India in the prestigious &quot;Indian University Ranking 2019&quot; list, released by the NIRF of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

It was established on 24 January 1857, and was one of the first institutions in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and Western-style university. Its alumni and faculty include several heads of state, heads of government, social reformers, prominent artists, only academy award winner and Dirac medal winner in India, many Fellows of the Royal Society and five Nobel laureates as of 2019 which is highest in South Asia.

We present a model in which particles (or individuals of a biological population) disperse with a rest time between consecutive motions (or migrations) which may take several possible values from a discrete set. Particles (or individuals) may also react (or reproduce). We derive a new equation for the effective rest time [Formula presented] of the random walk. Application to the neolithic transition in Europe makes it possible to derive more realistic theoretical values for its wavefront speed than those following from the single-delayed framework presented previously [J. Fort and V. Méndez, Phys. Rev. Lett. 82, 867 (1999)]. The new results are consistent with the archaeological observations of this important historical process. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Multidelayed random walks: Theory and application to the neolithic transition in Europe

We present a simple scaling form of Mott's formula of conductivity in case of amorphous materials in an arbitrary dimension d for a density of states which has a soft gap at the Fermi energy. We also indicate the scaling form of the conductivity at a high electric field. Previously known results can be obtained from this generalised form of the conductivity. © 2003 Published by Elsevier B.V..

A simple scaling approach to Mott conductivity

Diamagnetism is a universal pheneomenon of spinless boson system at any finite temperature regardless of their interactions. We present here the exact, non-perturbative results of universal diamagnetism of charged scalar fields at any finite temperature. As an application, we study the effect of anisotropy of two coherence lengths on diamagnetic susceptibility of Cooper pairs in an arbitrary d-dimensions above the transition temperature.

We report an imbibition experiment in 2D random porous media where the height-height correlation function grows with an exponent which depends on evaporation. We present an imbibition model consistent with this result.

The physical and mathematical mechanism behind diamagnetism of N (finite) spinless bosons (relativistic or non-relativistic) is well known. The mathematical signature of this diamagnetism follows from Kato's inequality while its physical way of understanding goes back to Van Leeuwen. One can guess that it might be true in the field theoretic case also. While the work on systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom suggests that the same result is true in a field theory, it does not by any means prove it. In the field theoretic context one has to develop a suitable regularisation scheme to renormalise the free energy. We show that charged scalar fields in (2+1) and (3+1) dimensions are always diamagnetic, even in the presence of interactions and at finite temperatures. This generalises earlier work on the diamagnetism of charged spinless bosons to the case of infinite degrees of freedom. We also discuss possible applications of the theory.
