University of Calcutta (informally known as Calcutta University or CU) is a collegiate public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.&nbsp;Within India it is recognized as a &quot;Five-Star University&quot; and accredited &quot;A&quot; Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

It was established on 24 January 1857, and was one of the first institutions in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and Western-style university. The CAD is a relatively young interdisciplinary technology, has had a tremendous impact on medical diagnosis specifically cancer detection. The accuracy of CAD to detect abnormalities on medical image analysis requires a robust segmentation algorithm. To achieve accurate segmentation, an efficient edge-detection algorithm is essential. Medical images like USG, X-Ray, CT and MRI exhibit diverse image characteristics but are essentially collection of intensity variations from which specific abnormalities are needed to be isolated. In this chapter a robust medical image enhancement and edge detection algorithm is proposed, using tree-based adaptive thresholding technique. It has been compared with different classical edge-detection techniques using one sample two tail t-test to exam whether the null hypothesis can be supported. The proposed edge-detection algorithm showing 0.07 p-values and 2.411 t-stat where α = 0.025. Adaptive edge detection method towards features extraction from diverse medical imaging technologies

The paper describes the studies of the tuning properties of an indigenously developed resonant-cap continuous wave IMPATT oscillator at Ka-band by changing circuit susceptance through mechanical tuning. It was observed that output power of a resonant-cap IMPATT oscillator passes through a maximum at a particular frequency for a given diode with an optimum combination of cap diameter and cap height. An empirical relation has been found between cap diameter and wavelength of the optimised oscillator, which agrees with the theoretical relation. The effect of sliding short tuner position on the oscillator at optimised condition and the phenomenon of frequency jump in certain positions of sliding short have been studied.
