In this paper we have investigated the excitation of the HEM21δ mode, another higher order mode in Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CDRA) by using a surface short probe feeding technique. The modal field variation due to metallic perturbations for this field configuration has also been presented here. The co-polarized gain has enhanced by 2dBi in H-plane with symmetrical E-field distribution but in case of E-plane the gain is decreased by 2dBi with asymmetrical distribution of E-field. © 2013 IEEE.

Single coax-fed Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna using higher order mode for pattern diversity

An investigation into the modal fields of a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) under different forms of metallic perturbations has been presented. It is shown that, properly designed 'perturbation' may help as mode-filter and in reality to control unwanted radiations from a practical antenna. CDRA with metallic perturbation shows broadside radiation with about 6 dBi peak gain and low cross-polarized fields. Promise for achieving over 40 dB isolation between co to cross-polarized fields has been documented. © 2013 IEEE.

Dielectric resonator antenna with metallic perturbation: Investigation into modal fields and new radiation properties

A resonant mode (HEM 12δ), other than those (HEM 11δ and TM 01δ) conventionally excited and used in a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) has been examined with a view for using it as another radiating mode with broadside radiation patterns. Excitation of the mode, being the most challenging aspect, has been discussed and resolved by employing an innovative technique. The proposed concept has been successfully verified and experimentally demonstrated for the first time. More than 8-dBi peak gain with excellent broadside radiation has been obtained from a prototype shaped from a commercially available low-loss dielectric material with relative permittivity 10. © 2006 IEEE.
