Abstract
Edge enhancement has proved to be a handy means for image engineers for pattern recognition and diseased cell discrimination. An advanced form of this technique, facilitating directional highlighting of the edges is more helpful for directional asymmetry search in the patterns. The present abstract proposes a simple yet very useful method for selective edge enhancement using azimuthal Walsh patterns, named after its formulator Joseph Walsh, of different orders used in the Fourier domain. In this chapter, simulations of selective edge enhancement using azimuthal Walsh filters have been shown and resultant images have been projected using a set-up containing Spatial Light Modulator (SLM). The method has been successfully applied to blood cell SEM image. The method is easy to implement with reasonable the computation capacity. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
