Quasi-Optical Design Approach for Resonant Cavity Antenna with Improved Characteristics

A quasi-optical design approach has been proposed to realize a resonant cavity antenna (RCA) for significant improvements in the gain characteristics. The ray-tracing technique of geometrical optics has been successfully used. About 17 dBi boresight gain has been achieved over the 18% impedance bandwidth of the antenna as evident from the experimental data. This approach should find several applications and may be useful to explore other variants of RCA configurations. © 2020 IEEE.
