Novel wide-band half hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna

A symmetrically half section of a hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) has been studied and proposed as a novel broadband antenna. The input return loss characteristics, associated resonant modes and their field patterns and the radiation characteristics over the operating band of a probe-fed DRA have been investigated using Ansoft HFSS solver. Suitable radiation patterns with nearly 40% bandwidth (S11<-10dB) have been obtained from a single element low profile DRA structure. © 2005 IEEE.
