This paper describes a new single-feed wideband circularly polarized antenna employing a suspended substrate probe-fed circular patch. A couple of simple slots are etched on the microstrip patch. An antenna operating over comparatively a very wide axial ratio bandwidth (< 3 dB) covering a frequency band for the global positioning system is demonstrated using simulation and experimental results. Excellent overlap of matching and axial ratio bandwidths is revealed for an optimum design. As much as 13% matching bandwidth (s 11<-10 dB) covering nearly 8% axial ratio bandwidth (<3 dB) is demonstrated with a good isolation between the right-handed and left-handed circularly polarized fields.
