Abstract
The formation of a quasi direct gap in Si nanostructures and the possibility of light emission from Si/SiGe Quantum Wells are examined in this paper. The extremely low value of matrix element for transition in type II structures is found to increase significantly in coupled Quantum Wells. Further enhancement in Dot structures and due to excitonic effects are pointed out. The feasibility of laser action at infrared involving interconduction-subband transition is also studied.
