Development of NAN for Energy Monitoring System using ZigBee

This paper describes a state-of-the-art development of energy monitoring system (EMS) to store the energy related information in a remote server. The energy flow in a battery energy storage (BESS) based grid tied solar photo-voltaic supply system in measured with multi-function metering (MFM) arrangements in a substation. The measured data from the MFMs are communicated to a remote central server with Zigbee based networking arrangement. The Zigbee mesh networking is made based on neighborhood area networking (NAN) protocol in order to provide sufficient redundant path. The AODV based networking algorithm is used and is implemented using a dedicated Microcontroller based system. The algorithm is tested with the malfunctioning of one node and to search for an alternate path so that the data can reach to the server without any loss of frame. © 2019 IEEE.
