Chemistry of amphiboles belonging to different litho-members of Torappadi ultramafic - mafic layered complex (Tamil Nadu) has been presented. Compositionally, they are all 'calcic' and range from magnesio-hornblende to edenite or edenitic hornblende. The amphiboles of the present area (showing imprints of amphibolite or granulite facies of metamorphism) have been equilibrated at low- to medium - pressure condition at ca 2.25 to 6.02 kb. The temperature of equilibration has been estimated to be around 692°to 872°C. It has been suggested that Torappadi rocks correspond to shallow-level feature equivalent to a depth of ca 5 to 15.8 km which distinctly bears a signature of low-pressure high-temperature metamorphism (LPM) in the terrain. Tectonic implications of the deduced data have been discussed.
