A new feed conceived for exciting HEM12δ mode in a cylindrical DRA

A new feed to excite a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) with HEM12δ mode has been conceived and demonstrated in this paper for the first time. This uses an aperture-fed dielectric resonator as a feed to a CDRA and results in much improved bandwidth along with attractive radiation characteristics. As much as 7.6 dBi peak gain has been documented. This investigation adds a new feeding technique satisfying the boundary condition required for the modal fields and appears as a superior alternative to the earlier feeding techniques. © 2015 IEEE.
